KATHMANDU, May 25 — The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has forecast continued heat wave conditions in parts of western Nepal on Monday, while several hilly and Himalayan regions are likely to witness moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.
According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, heat wave conditions are expected to persist in the Terai districts of Sudurpashchim and Lumbini provinces. Likewise, hot day conditions are likely in the hilly areas of the two provinces due to rising temperatures and prolonged dry weather.
The Division stated that the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy over Koshi Province and the hilly and Himalayan regions of Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. Moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning has been forecast at a few places in Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, as well as at some locations in Lumbini, Karnali and Sudurpashchim provinces.
Among the major cities, Dhangadhi and Nepalgunj are likely to experience severe heat wave conditions, with maximum temperatures ranging between 39 and 41 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Dipayal is expected to record temperatures between 38 and 40 degrees Celsius.
Birendranagar, Ghorahi and Bhairahawa are also likely to witness hot day conditions, with temperatures climbing close to 40 degrees Celsius, according to the department.
Meanwhile, Kathmandu, Pokhara, Taplejung and Okhaldhunga are forecast to receive moderate rainfall along with thundershowers later in the day.
